4240 Architecture Announces Louis Bieker as New Principal

Denver, CO, August 29, 2011 - 4240 Architecture Inc's founding Principals E. Randal Johnson, AIA, in Denver, and Thomas R. Brauer, AIA, in Chicago, welcome Louis Bieker, AIA, LEED AP as a new Principal and look forward to building upon 4240's reputation for executing high performance, award-winning architecture.

"The last few years have not been kind to our profession. Through these difficult times, Lou has been highly successful in securing new work, new clients, new typologies, and new markets. This has helped position 4240 well for the future, casting a wide net and expanding our portfolio, while preserving a legacy of craft, performance, and beauty." - Randy Johnson, AIA

"Lou brings great leadership to our clients, the firm, and our projects. We are excited about Lou's ongoing role in the future of our practice." - Tom Brauer, AIA

Lou thrives in the conceptual-ideation phase. He is driven by discovery and committed to the belief that the "big ideas", and ultimately project solutions, emerge through a process of discovery; between client, designer, site, and community. Lou's role is one of facilitator and storyteller. As facilitator, Lou's inquisitive nature and research-based design process regularly ask, "What If?", to provoke, reveal, and build a consensus that reflects clients' goals and seeks design excellence. As storyteller Lou's words, images, and imagination navigate clients through early concepts to built architecture.

Lou derives creative inspiration from everyday life experiences, the natural beauty of the site, and the vision of the clients. "I am inspired by our clients, and I feed off of their enthusiasm. My job is to 'tune in' to their frequency-- actively listening to their needs and goals, interpreting their vision through 4240's hands and imagination, and ultimately giving form through architecture." Lou also speaks of his peers at 4240 as "intensely smart, creative, and provocative minds-- a collaborative team that inspire, push, and challenge each other." With Lou as a new Principal, 4240 strengthens and continues its tradition of a collaborative, hands-on, personal culture.

4240 Architecture Announces Completion of a New Office Building for a Law Firm at Washington and Peoria in Chicago's West Loop

Chicago, IL, August 10, 2011

Acknowledging the owner as a driving enthusiast, the architectural design of this office building blends the machined precision of modern car culture with the sophisticated elegance of commercial material and detail.

The plan of this Class A law office space uses lanes as a means of spatial organization. Together with a narrow structural bay, the rhythm of the office is reminiscent of car culture. Both client and attorney follow the 'lanes of service,' coming together at the threshold between the public and semi-public zones where the attorneys diagnose debt related issues and implement preventative maintenance measures to help alleviate the realities of a problematic situation.

At this time, the majority focus of the firm's practice is in bankruptcy law. As clients take the first steps towards rebuilding their lives, a controlled environment of privacy, security, and most importantly hope, is a priority. The unique form of the building itself paints space with light to hopeful effect.

This professional environment also facilitates a balance of work with fitness, rest and a healthy diet for the attorneys and staff that spend long days and nights in service to these clients.

"I appreciate a client who recognizes the emotional and physical importance of an inspiring, light-filled office environment for both clients and staff," comments Design Director, Robert Benson. "With this exceptional imperative, we designed a comfortable atmosphere of hope and wellness. The spatial recognition of the human need for a sense of security and productivity contributes to both financial and personal health."

4240 Architecture's Chicago Studio Relocates to Creative Design Community

Chicago, IL, June 1, 2011

The Chicago studio of 4240 Architecture has relocated from Depaul's Richard M. and Maggie C. Daley Building in the Loop to an adaptive reuse development at Jefferson and Van Buren in Chicago.

The former printer's building at 328 South Jefferson Street is far along in its current redevelopment by Blue Star Properties, LLC. Mike Lombardo of Blue Star is thrilled with how the project has taken off, "The concept of a River-North-type loft in close proximity to Union and Ogilvie train stations has been very attractive to a fantastic collection of creative industries." 4240 Architecture is looking forward to this sympathetic community of creative design tenants; which include other sustainable design consultants, other architectural and engineering firms, and marketing and communication firms.

4240's space on the seventh floor of this 280,000 square foot concrete loft building suits the studio well. High ceilings and expansive, operable windows wash the spaces with invigorating natural light and, when opened, invite the energy of urban white noise.

"This move makes tangible our commitment to a smart, sustainable, efficient and collaborative process," says 4240's Principal, Tom Brauer. "So much of our communication and collaborative product is digital, we've streamlined our materials resource library and cut paper-file storage capacity significantly. We've also furnished the space with our existing furniture systems and prioritized efficiency, comfort and communication."
